How to Know if it’s Time for a Redesign

Just as you might give your dealership a makeover or retrain your employees, your website is another key part of your business that needs to be kept up-to-date and occasionally, revamped completely. Some might even argue that your website is your #1 salesperson, communicating who your business is 24/7 to the world wide web. So, how do you know if it’s time for a refresh, or an overhaul, of your website? Consider these telltale signs that a redesign might be due.

Poor Navigation

You are probably aware that having a user-friendly navigation bar is an essential part of any website. This is especially true for complex businesses who specialize in multiple things such as parts, service, rental, or several categories of inventory. As always, you need to step into your customer’s shoes when considering what tabs are most relevant to include in your navigation bar. Don’t just guess what your website visitors will want to see, but instead do your homework! Look into your website analytics to see which pages have the highest views and which pages have nearly no visits. Also, listen to your customers. If they’re asking you questions that you know are answered on your website, you need to make sure that content is easily accessible.

Not Mobile Optimized

In an age where the use of mobile technology is increasing exponentially, having a mobile-optimized website is no longer an option, it is a must. This is a topic we have continued to discuss, and when contemplating a redesign, it should be at the top of your priorities to incorporate a responsive, or at the very least a mobile-friendly design.

High Bounce Rate

It is important to check the bounce rate of all your pages, particularly your homepage. If your homepage has a bounce rate over 50%, you might need to rework your content to entice visitors to search further into your website. While some might think the more links the better, when it comes to external linking, or linking to another business’s website such as your OEM, this might actually cause visitors to leave your page due to the fact that your website isn’t self-contained.

No CTA or Lead Form

One of the biggest mistakes you can make online is to have a website for your business without any actionable items on it. If visitors are unable to take a step towards doing business with you, the sole purpose of your website has failed. Keep in mind that we don’t encourage putting an obnoxious abundance of these features on your website, after all, everything in moderation. But intuitively placed lead forms or CTA’s are welcomed by visitors and often necessary for establishing contact from a visitor’s standpoint. Make sure your contact page is set up this way particularly since this is where prospects will look first to communicate with you.
These are just a few of the many features of your website that may indicate you need to consider a redesign. Although it may sound daunting, as one of the most important parts of your marketing efforts, your business’s website should be fresh and inviting to any and all prospects in your industry. If you’re still not sure whether you need a redesign, we’d be happy to take a look at your current website to help you figure it out. If you’ve come to the conclusion that your website does in fact need a redesign, we’d be happy to help make it happen! Reach out to us at marketing@commercialwebservices.com to get started.
