We want to keep it fun this Christmas Day while also keeping in theme with our marketing work!  We have a lot of holiday debates within our organization. Whether it’s been if mac and cheese really belongs at the Thanksgiving table or the best holiday movie of all time, we really get into the festive spirit here. While the majority of people groan over the holidays seeming to start earlier and earlier each year, there’s one thing we marketing nerds look forward to and that’s the holiday advertisements.

So in honor of Christmas today, here are our favorite TV Christmas commercials, with some important marketing lessons behind them.

Heathrow Airport

This heartwarming commercial launched last year from London’s Heathrow Airport mirroring the lives of a couple and their love story through teddy bears. Might sound crazy if you haven’t seen it yet. So just watch it below!

What’s great about this commercial, besides the heartfelt story and impressive production quality, is the way it ties the story back to the brand and its mission. As depicted at the end with the phrase, “Closer this Christmas,” Heathrow connects their service and mission of connecting London and the UK to the world seamlessly with that of a scenario that resonates closely to those traveling during the holiday season.

Amazon

This advertisement, also launched last year, was applauded by viewers for it’s important tone and relevancy to the current atmosphere throughout the world. It’s ability to show how two individuals with different views are still so similar. Check out the commercial below.

Through this positive portrayal of human interaction through a simple act of buying gifts for one another, Amazon was able to spread a meaningful message to viewers, no matter what holiday they might be celebrating.

Coca Cola

One of the most coveted and anticipated commercials of the season is that of the Coca Cola polar bears. If you don’t think you’ve seen them before, you’re in for a sweet treat! Below is a video compilation of the Coca Cola polar bear commercials over the years and how they’ve evolved.

The notable element of these commercials each year is the brand recognition that comes with them. Coca Cola is clearly a household name nowadays, and the persistent and consistent brand push significantly contributed to solidifying this role. These commercials have become so well-known, that even Coca Cola polar bear merchandise is sold this time of year.

Hershey Kisses

Going off the theme from the Coca Cola commercial success, this advertisement from Hershey Kisses featuring their signature chocolate also utilizes their product in a creative way to solidify brand recognition. To see what we’re talking about, just watch their advertisement below!

Their unique way of using their product to mimic another object that still makes sense, flawlessly fits into the holiday season making it a clever commercial played year after year. We wouldn’t believe you if you said you didn’t crave chocolate a little bit after watching it!
